Java Air Rally
We departed Bulelang for the first leg of the Rally to fly to the "Jambore Aero Sport 2001" in Jakarta via Yogyakarta and Nusa Wiru. Landing in Surabaya we awaited the remaining 12 aircraft to arrive for a briefing by the Indonesian Airforce - who were the hosts for the event. Heading south west we then flew to Yogyakarta and were officially welcomed by the Commanders and Generals of the Airforce training base in their VIP Room with a lunch.
In the late afternoon we were then given a tour of the nearby Borobudur Buddhist Temple -one of the 7 Wonders of the World. A stone pyramid with a base of 118 metres x 118 metres was constructed between 750 to 850 AD as a Buddhist monument and Temple. It was lost for hundreds of years under the ash of volcanoes. In 1815 it was rediscovered by Sir Thomas Raffles and between 1973 to 1983 the structure was renovated and cleaned at a cost of about US ,000,000 .
