NusaWiru and the Green Canyon | ![]() |
|
Nusa Wiru We flew west to the south eastern corner of West Java. We were officially welcomed at a lunch hosted by local government, military and police officials at the Nusa Wiru Airport. This is the nearest airport to the beach side town of Pagandaran, where we would stay the night Once all the competing aircraft had arrived ,we loaded into a couple of escorted buses and headed to a national park called the Green Canyon known locally as Cujan Tanueh. |

Motorcycle Escort From the airport to the canyon our trip was made much speedier thanks to a police escort with three motorcycles and the general's limousine in front of our bus. The great thing about a trip like this, is that traffic is swept to the side as our convoy zoomed through the narrow roads of the countryside . |

Canoes down the Canyon
On arrival at the Green Canyon we were bundled into motorised outrigger canoes with a couple of Generals in each and began our trip down one of the most beautiful water gorges on the planet through cliffs hanging with ferns and lush tropical plants. |

TNI Navy Seal escort Because our boat was carrying some of Indonesia's highest ranking Airforce personnel, they made sure we wouldn't sink with a couple of boat loads of Navy Seals to escort our canoes. |

Gliding through Paradise The Green Canyon is one of Java's most spectacular natural attractions. Crystal clear waters flow through lush rainforest covered canyon walls. |

Living Cliffs After a 20 minutes ride down the canyon we stopped and had a swim in the crystal clear waters just below a waterfall. The walls were covered with stalactites from water leaching down the overhanging limestone cliffs. |

Fishing Boats at Pangandaran Colourful motorised fishing boats line the beaches and tow long nets out from the beaches and loop around the schools of fish. Half a dozen fishermen then drag the net back in to shore. |
